Generations of Singaporeans born during the 1970s and 1980s grew up with iconic playgrounds all over the island – Sampan Playground, Pineapple Playground, Queen of Fruits Mangosteen Playground and Watermelon Playground, Dinosaur Playground, Dragon Playground, and Elephant Playground. These quintessential playgrounds became heritage symbols of Singapore. Although most of these playgrounds have been torn down in recent years due to safety concerns, these iconic landmarks have been immortalised in a variety of media – and in the hearts of many Singaporeans who have fond memories growing up in these neighbourhoods.
