Doing Good Together

Doing Good Together is a limited collaboration between JOURNEY,  TOUCHpoint@Yishun 436, and TOUCH Centre for Independent Living (TCIL) (Ubi). Forged in commemoration of SG60, the collaboration celebrates the spirit of togetherness, with the aim of fostering an inclusive and caring society. 

As part of the collaboration, JOURNEY Special Artists, the seniors of TOUCHpoint@Yishun 436, and special needs clients under the care of TCIL (Ubi) have designed Singapore-inspired artwork featured on items curated for the exclusive Doing Good Together Care Kits.

Each Care Kit comprises a sling bag, water bottle, towel and exercise band, aimed at encouraging moments of wellness amongst those who receive it. These commemorative Care Kits are available for purchase for individual use and gifting, offering members of the community the opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause.
 

Proceeds from the sale of the Care Kits go towards supporting the work of JOURNEY as well as seniors and persons with special needs under TOUCH’s care.

About the artists

  • Mdm Heng Tiew Sing
    Mdm Heng Tiew Sing loves painting trees and flowers, a reflection of her appreciation for nature’s beauty. Gardens by the Bay is her go-to place to admire flowers. Friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand, she’s also known for her exceptional culinary skills Believing that art and food bring people together, Mdm Heng enjoys creating art with friends and sharing cooking recipes with them. 
  • Mdm K Jothi
    Mdm K Jothi is happiest with a watercolor brush in hand, bringing her vibrant imagination to life. She’s a happy, helpful, and joyful soul who loves to sing, swim, and dance. Sentosa holds a special place in her heart with its endless sights and sounds. Between caring for her grandchildren and cooking up family meals, Mdm Jothi continues to spread love through everything she does. 
  • Mdm Lim Tiew Tien Karen

     Mdm Karen Lim finds her creative outlet in acrylic painting and intricate paper and bead crafts. Describing herself as joyful, positive, and friendly, Mdm Lim cherishes memories of visiting the zoo with her siblings as a child. Today, she still enjoys the company of animals at the Zoo and Bird Park. Her dream is to exhibit her art in a gallery or community centre, so others in Yishun and beyond can enjoy her vibrant creations. 

  • Mdm Lim Yien Yean Joy
    Mdm Lim Yien Yean expresses herself through both drawing and coloring. A happy-go-lucky spirit, she enjoys sewing and cross-stitching just as much as creating art. Singapore River is one of her favorite places, and she fondly remembers visiting the old Beach Road Garden. She’d love to have her artwork displayed in an art gallery, where it can be appreciated by people from all walks of life. 
  • Mr Ng Kim Huat
    Mr Ng Kim Huat finds joy in drawing animals, often capturing their playful energy and charm through his art. Describing himself as someone who can “enjoy life anywhere”, his cheerful outlook extends beyond the canvas. When he's not creating, you’ll find him singing or catching a movie. Among his favorite places in Singapore are Gardens by the Bay and the Zoo. A fun-loving soul, Mr Ng enjoys all kinds of games and embraces every day with light-hearted curiosity. 
  • Mdm Ong Ah Moy
    Colouring is Mdm Ong Ah Moy’s favourite way to express herself Her cheerful personality shines through in everything she does, whether she’s singing or enjoying the views at Sentosa. One of her fondest memories is growing up in a kampong, where life was simple and the community was close-knit. For Mdm Ong, life is all about finding joy in the little things and sharing a smile along the way. 
  • Mdm Saenthi
    Mdm Saenthi’s artistic world is full of blooming flowers and serene trees. A joyful, helpful, and happy person, she enjoys crafting with her hands and spending time at Jurong Bird Park. One of her fondest memories is attending the National Day Parade, feeling the pride and spirit of the nation. Whether she’s cooking or catching up with friends, Mdm Saenthi brings joy to every gathering. 
  • Mr Tan Thye Hock Paul
    Mr Paul Tan loves drawing flowers, fish, and animalsart that mirrors his appreciation for nature and life's simple pleasures. He fondly remembers the old hawker centres from his youth, filled with the aroma of his favorite dishes. Mr Tan hopes to showcase his art at his local community centre, so that more people can enjoy his creations and be inspired. With a great sense of humor and love for music, Mr Tan brings laughter and light to those around him. 
  • Chen Zhiyu
    Zhiyu loves dinosaurs and enjoys reading about them in his free time. While he used to be very reserved and found it challenging to start a conversation with others, art has given him more confidence in life. 
     
    He is no longer the reserved person he once was and is now able to give a brief introduction about himself. Zhiyu also creates artwork that carry his unique perspective of life, such as iconic playgrounds in Singapore. Zhiyu is diagnosed with Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder. 
  • Cheng Chiang Yong
    As an artist, Chiang Yong has his own unique way of interpreting a subject. With his eye for beauty, Chiang Yong has created many artworks of the Vanda Miss Joaquim. 
     
    While Chiang Yong is a lively person who proudly shares his enthusiasm for his art, he is also a true gentleman, always responsible and helpful in lending a helping hand to his peers. Chiang Yong is a family person and he is close to his mother. He enjoys spending time with her during the weekends. Chiang Yong is diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, Visual and Speech Impairment. 
  • Emily Chua
    Emily loves animals, especially cats. Felines hold a special appeal for her as she finds them graceful and mysterious. Emily also enjoys creating art. It is a good platform for her to express her feelings and perspective to a wider audience. 
     
    Being exposed to different art forms has helped Emily develop a better appreciation for the use of colours in her art. She hopes that her paintings can make people happy. Emily is diagnosed with Down Syndrome. 
  • Natalie Yap
    Natalie is a quiet girl and she takes a while to warm up to people. Baking is one of her favourite activities because she likes desserts. She is a big foodie who loves spicy food. Her favourite dish is nasi lemak. As an artist, the theme of circles and ovals is a hallmark of Natalie’s work due to her fascination with round shapes. Natalie is diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Partial Hearing Impairment, and Partial Speech Impairment. 
  • Say Kim Han
    The city life in Singapore is a source of fascination for Kim Han, who enjoys jogging. When jogging, Kim Han often thinks of his favourite Singaporean landmarks, such as the Marina Bay Sands and Raffles City. He excels in sketching intricate details in his artwork, reflecting the methodical way he thinks. Kim Han is diagnosed with Intellectual Disability. 
  • Shennie Yang
    Shennie’s love for family and close ties with her siblings and parents are often her inspiration for art. As an artist, Shennie gravitates to cute animals and nature. She enjoys drawing hamsters and flowers. She also loves inventing art patterns using the letters in her name. Shennie is diagnosed with Intellectual Disability. 
  • Tan Hui Min
    You will never find a greater animal lover than Hui Min. She has a soft spot for dogs and takes joy in bringing her dog for daily evening walks. She also enjoys a good game of chess. Her strength in recognising good colour combinations empowers her to express herself through art pieces that are dearly loved. Hui Min is diagnosed with Intellectual Disability. 
  • Wong Jun Quan
    Jun Quan is a huge movie and television series buff. He loves watching action films, especially if they are kung fu related. Passionate about art, Jun Quan sketches in his free time and hones his craft before going to bed every night. 
     
    Jun Quan also has a keen interest in technology and enjoys drawing IT-related items, such as computers and smartphones in his artwork. Jun Quan is diagnosed with Down Syndrome.

Living a life well-seasoned

Instead of drizzling olive oil over golden, crusty pizzas or carefully watching over a pot of rich tomato sauce bubbling with melted cheese, Mdm Murtha Jothi now spends her time meaningfully playing Rumi-O, exercising, and honing her artistic and Anklung skills at TOUCHpoint@Yishun 436, an Active Ageing Centre.

Sparking joy in surprising connections

At the start of this year, the couple was invited to join “Doing Good Together” – a SG60 project that involves seniors and special artists from JOURNEY, a brand under TOUCH that showcases the artistic talents of people with intellectual disabilities. Its goal is to co-create heartfelt artworks in celebration of Singapore’s 60th birthday to raise funds for TOUCH.
